Why I Become A Financial Advisor

Some people are naturally drawn to certain careers and hobbies. For me, it’s business. I started my career running two family restaurants with my father and overseeing more than 20 employees for 16 years. While I loved the business side of things, I realized I wasn’t passionate about the restaurant world.

In the early 1990's my father and I hired a financial advisor to help us in the areas of estate and business succession planning. At that time, we had been business partners for several years but never addressed some of the critical components of a financial plan. This was my first experience in working with a financial advisor.

MAKING THE LEAP

I remember feeling "blown away" about what I didn't know and how vulnerable we were. I was truly grateful for the valuable information he was sharing and his ability to tackle difficult conversations such as dying prematurely, becoming disabled and the future ownership of our business.

As time went by, my father was ready to retire and I was starting a family. For many personal reasons and the desire to have a greater impact on the lives of others, I decided to sell my family business and start my journey as a financial advisor. In 1999, I joined Alliance Advisory Group, the same firm I hired to help my father and I. Being the true entrepreneur that I am, today I operate as Lutz & Associates in affiliation with AAG.

MY CAREER TODAY

Today, my mission is to help people resolve their conflicts and contradictions around money, allowing them to live a more confident and prosperous life. Having owned a family business, I have the ability to relate to the challenges that business owners face on a daily basis. Along with business owners, many of whom are in agriculture, I frequently work with high-income earners and pre-retirees.

Regardless of who I’m working with, my goal is to provide my clients with confidence and security regarding their business, employees, family, and future. A lot of people experience inner turmoil over the “right” thing to do with their finances, whether it’s regarding cash flow decisions, estate planning, wealth management, investing, social security choices, business succession or even competing goals, such as paying for college and being able to retire. I strive to resolve the concerns that keep you up at night and plan today for tomorrow.

DOING WHAT I LOVE

Throughout my career, I’ve built strong relationships with so many incredible individuals, families, and business owners. I am relentless in my commitment to genuinely understand every client’s unique needs and help them pursue financial confidence. I like to think that my clients know how much I care and how genuinely concerned about and interested I am in their future.  

While it can be quite a juggling act balancing my role as a business owner and as an advisor to many clients, I can’t imagine having any other career. There’s nothing more fulfilling than connecting with people on a deep level and knowing that I can make a positive difference in their lives. Whether I’m pushing myself to be the best I can be or serving as an influential leader, I’m driven by my ability to help families, as well as my own, and feel satisfied every day.
